This site started from the inspiration of the movie The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (2013, directed by Ben Stiller), and slowly became a tribute to the song Space Oddity (David Bowie, 1969). The song is featured strongly in the film, and is used thematically to develop the storyline, as well as becoming a part of the soundtrack. Actress Kristen Wiig sings a cover of it in the movie.

I also drew inspiration for the site from other content I’ve seen around the song. In 2013 astronaut Chris Hadfield recorded a cover of the song aboard the International Space Station, the first music video shot in space.

The page is designed to be interactive, allowing the user to enjoy watching the little spaceman float around and handing him his guitar to play and taking it back again. The music the astronaut you get to interact with plays on his guitar is a simple recording of me playing Space Oddity in my room.
